Cleaning a house is a pain in the ass, which is why there is probably such a booming industry for maid services. Curbly has a great post that reveals some of the "secrets" of maids that allow you to zip through cleaning your house. My guess, although it's not stated in the post, is that you need to do a very thorough deep cleaning prior to using the tips in the post so that you are starting from a very clean basis.
