Think thin

According to a Business 2.0 - article, a number of companies are working as fast as possible to find the "magic bullet" weight loss drug. Why? Because 44 million people (and counting) in America are obese (and 44 million is being somewhat conservative, according to the article). Translation: that can mean $50 billion in 10 years according to the article.

This is an absolutely huge industry. I've even jumped on the bandwagon once or twice, trying Hydroxycut and Xenadrine. While it sure seemed that I lost weight, they don't call ephedra "trucker speed" for nothing -- I think I vibrated most of the weight off from the shakes the ephedra gave me.

In any event, it will be interesting to watch who gets to market the most quickly. An interesting point in the article is that the FDA is considering accelerating the approval process, which, is

. . . an accommodation it usually makes only for fatal diseases like cancer . . .
